About the OSH Stakeholder Alliance

The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Stakeholder Alliance is a coalition of nine of the UK’s most prominent safety and health organisations: the British Occupational Hygiene Society, the British Safety Council, the British Safety Industry Federation, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors, the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

The OSH Alliance was formed in May 2023 with the objective of leveraging its unique 360-degree combination of competencies, experience and credibility to advance progressive improvement in the mitigation of risk factors which cause physical or mental health issues where people work.

Collectively, the OSH Alliance members’ competencies span the full spectrum of OSH factors, from education and regulation to policy creation, professional standards and thought leadership. The OSH Alliance aims to deliver a unified voice for the OSH profession, drawing on members’ collective expertise to inform and support decision-making across government, policy-maker, corporate and professional levels.

The OSH Alliance will be selective in its engagement with subject matter, prioritising subjects which already pose substantial threat to the wellbeing of people, businesses, the economy and public health infrastructure.

It is committed to supporting the good practice that already prevails in the occupational safety and health space and to developing and implementing programmes, initiatives and activities that enhance it. The OSH Alliance will leverage members’ influence to deliver joint messaging and facilitate continuous progress on crucial OSH issues. It will also work to increase the visibility and value of the safety and health profession and its wider set of disciplines and practices as well as highlighting its role in delivering OSH goals.

While the UK has an enviable record in safety, there remains much to be done. Beyond safety, the subject of health and specifically mental health will be an immediate area of focus for the OSH Alliance.
